Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist (map)
We will be having a meetup with the topic on Neo-Paganism. Please join us for this informative event on how to be a tree-hugging, animal loving dirt worshipper!
Kassandra runs the Pagan Unity Covenant Group at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Elgin as well as the Meetup group of the same name. http://www.meetup.com...
She will be leading a discussion on the topic of Neo-Paganism. We will actually use a mini-ritual structure by casting the circle and calling in the energies of the four elements at the beginning and dismissing them at the end of our discussion.
About Kassandra:
My husband, Andrew and I began doing neo-pagan rituals at UUCE (the Unitarian Universalist Church of Elgin) after we moved to Elgin in 2004 and joined the church in 2005. Pagan Unity evolved out of our efforts there about 3 years ago. I am a former member of Countryside Church where I attended for 10 years prior to moving to Elgin. My journey into neo-paganism began at Countryside when I took the Women's Spirituality Curriculum; Cakes for the Queen of Heaven and viewed the "Goddess Remembered" video trilogy. My life path totally changed after those experiences. Seeking for more mystical knowledge I took The Class in Magick; a 5-month long course in magickal spirituality taught by Karen Jackson, Priestess and Founder of The Temple of the Four Winds in Evanston, IL (and, incidentally, a former UU). I was an initiated member in the Temple for 5 years concurrent with my Countryside membership. The most important lesson Karen ever taught me was in the very first lesson. She said; "The Goddess' hands are at the ends of your wrists." Crafting oneself as a witch is about using magick to open the door of opportunity. Taking action and walking through the door can be scary, but it's necessary for change and growth. Otherwise, what you are doing is just "wishcraft".

We are looking at getting the movie Signs Out of Time. A documentary on archeologist Marija Gimbutas, who found that Europe’s origins lay in a cooperative, peaceful, neolitihic Goddess culture. Her theories challenge conventional archaeology, spirituality, theology, and religious studies, while inspiring artists, feminists, environmentalists and activists. We would like to possibly show this for the May or June first Friday movie night.
